SUSANNE FROM THE NETHERLANDS NEEDS HOST FAMILY
EF High School Exchange Year is in immediate need of several families willing to host international exchange students who will be attending school in Southern California. In particular, they are looking for a host family in Ventura, CA to host Susanne from the Netherlands. Susanne is social, enjoys reading and going to the movies. She describes herself as spontaneous and outgoing.
An exchange student is like a son or daughter to you, they help with household chores, attend school and share their culture with you while learning about your culture.

PAPA'S WAR
Papa's War On May 5, Dutch people the world over will celebrate the 70th anniversary of their country's liberation from the German occupation.

DUTCH EXCHANGE STUDENT NEEDS HOST FAMILY

DUTCH DIRECTOR TO BE FILMING IN LOS ANGELES
DesertedIn March, World Visuals Films with director Niels Bourgonje and screenwriter Paul Bontenbal will be making the exciting short film Deserted in the Los Angeles area. Deserted is about a man who is lost and exhausted in the desert. After finding a bottle of water, he fights the temptation to drink any. Throughout the film it is revealed how the man has been trapped in this situation and what the consequences are if he drinks the water.

NAS VP RUNNING IN LA MARATHON FOR WORTHWHILE CAUSE
On Sunday, March 15th 2015, the Netherlands American Society's vice-president Justin Verduyn will be running the L.A. marathon from Dodger Stadium, along Hollywood Blvd., down Sunset Blvd., to the Santa Monica Pier. He will be running for a very good cause, namely The Dream Center, his church's hospital. Participants run to raise support for the Dream Center's human trafficking program, Project Hope.

Project Hope is a program dedicated to helping survivors of human trafficking to establish a new life. Through this program, the Dream Center helps rescue, rebuild and restore the lives of female survivors of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery that has an estimated 27 million victims in the world today. The FBI has identified Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco as hotspots for domestic and international trafficking. It targets mostly children, little girls, average age 12-14.

DUTCH NATIVE SPEAKER NEEDED
Moravia IT is currently looking for a Dutch native speaker, eligible to work in the US, interested in working onsite for their client based in Cupertino, California. The work entails testing their client’s software applications and websites. For example: whether any string is cut off; whether any strings are left in English; any typos or spelling errors and if strings make sense in context. Any bugs should be logged in a bug database.
This is a temporary position and is immediately available. Hours are from 9am to 5pm with an unpaid one-hour lunch break. Wages are an hourly rate agreed upon when hired, plus mileage compensation at $0.55 per mile.

DUTCH DISTANCE EDUCATION (e-learning) FOR CHILDREN
Helma Schulze, an experienced licensed Dutch teacher, provides Dutch distance education (e-learning) for children. Due to job assignments many Dutch families with children temporarily stay in a foreign country, but when they return to the Netherlands, many children have problems with their mother tongue. This can be avoided when they participate in distance education. The teaching program and lessons have been compiled by Helma Schulze in accordance with official Dutch school programs. She contacts the pupils individually on a weekly basis using the internet (via Skype) which enables her to see, speak with, guide and teach her pupils. Besides the Skype lessons, the pupils are expected to do homework as well.

DUTCH ROCK BAND 'THE SCENE' - FINAL FAREWELL CONCERT
As you may know, Dutch rock band The Scene, with singer Thé Lau, is playing their final farewell concert on Saturday June 21, 2014, at the Ancienne Belgique in Belgium. After 35 years, The Scene is forced to quit because Thé's throat cancer has now spread to his lungs.

"Everyone Is Of The World", "Open" and "Blue" are songs that many Dutch and Flemish people grew up with. The audience at home has reacted with heartwarming enthusiasm: the very last concert at the Ancienne Belgique has been sold out for weeks.

Fans abroad and The Scene would like to pay homage to Thé by organizing a global live streaming of the concert on 21 June and make this an historic moment when fans all over the world can come together this way.

In Los Angeles, it will take place at 8 pm, Saturday, June 21 at the Lyric Theatre, 520 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90036. Free admission with RSVP at voila! Sessions.
