DUTCH TRANSLATIONS NEEDED Marshall Burns, PhD, needs items from Dutch magazines translated, ranging from short paragraphs to two pages (about 200 to 2,000 words), which are required in research he is conducting. He is self-funding this project so he hopes to find a student(s) or retired person(s) to translate them for a good deal less than professional rates. He could cooperate to allow a student to earn course credit for this.
For more information and to discuss this project, please contact Marshall Burns by email at mb2613@ennex.com or phone (805) 451-4507.

Dutch-American entrepreneurs have done well. However, it is not only their business competency that counts. Most of these Dutch-American entrepreneurs are committed Protestants, active members of Reformed churches, and firm believers in Calvinist doctrines. They see themselves as a part of the Reformed tradition that emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic, the duty to use one’s God given talents, the obligation to share one’s wealth with others, and the commitment to community service and worthy causes. Somehow, Calvinism and entrepreneurship go well together and in combination prospered in the American cultural context. To clarify this relationship is one of the main goals of this new book by Peter Ester.
Twenty-one highly successful Dutch-American entrepreneurs are interviewed regarding the impact of their Calvinist upbringing on their business achievements and the way their entrepreneurial qualities are shaped by their Calvinist values and norms. Is the unique blending of Calvinism and capitalism the secret of Dutch-American entrepreneurial success?
Peter Ester is a social scientist and professor at Rotterdam University. He published numerous books and scholarly articles on social and economic issues and on Dutch-American culture. From 2008-2011 he was adjunct research professor at the Van Raalte Institute (Hope College, Holland, Michigan). Peter Ester is Senator (ChristenUnion) in the Upper House of the Dutch parliament.
